My Reply to a Christian Lesbian
“Im christian and a lesbian, but Ive seen soo many bible verses against homosexuality. If I want to please God, should I get with a man just because its right?”
You should know first off that the sexual laws are there so that mankind will increase in numbers, and homosexuality fights against that. Second it’s also there as a test for us, to see if we love God or not. There were many such laws in the Old Testament that were symbolic and not just a self-check test, but few of them remained in force after Jesus was resurrected. Some did however like marriage laws, and sexual laws (and we should be thankful that God lifted the burden of what seemed like a countless amount of laws for us to obey).
Though it is possible to be a Christian (meaning to follow (obey) Christ), you can still be unsaved, meaning still under God’s wrath. That is shown clearly in the Old Testament repeatedly: there were many Israelites (as in all the tribes) who though would praise God with their lips or obey him outwardly with their actions now and then, or refrain from stealing or lying or committing adultery (which even non-Christians can do) their hearts the Bible teaches were corrupt and hated him. Though you may think, “But I don’t hate God”, but though you may not feel an intense hatred, the Bible teaches, and Jesus made clear, that if you love God you will obey him in general and though it may be very slowly, will improve in your obedience over time. Hatred isn’t something we always feel, if we hate someone we try to forget them at times, and during those times the hatred isn’t noticed till since it’s in the back of our hearts so to speak, and the same can be true of God.
“I’ve seen it done before, with a gay man getting with a woman, and it ended in a bitter divorce with kids in the mix.”
My point is if you are a lesbian you’re not saved according to the Bible, because if you were, your heart would have been changed so that you would have the ability to crush your desire for women, or at least women only, for various periods of time which would get better at doing. So, marrying a man isn’t the solution, getting forgiven is, and when you are forgiven, that takes place with God giving you a spirit of your own (called being born again) that does not sin and always obeys God. Your spirit is what has the “new heart” that the Old Testament mentions. Your spirit resists what your body wants to do till the day your body either dies and or God changes or resurrects it so that it is perfectly obedient and immortal. Your body has a mind of it’s own so to speak, so does your spirit, and the two will often be at odds, and your body will often, at least in the beginning, overcome your spirit’s attempts to get it to obey God.
“Marry/date the opposite gender even when u don’t like/love them?”
The first step is to get saved. I don’t know if you will be attracted to men after you are saved, you may not be, and in that case the apostle Paul advices that you stay single so that you can spend your full efforts on serving God (he probably meant as in leading others to salvation or helping others to). Another thing to keep in mind is that marriage isn’t necessarily for sexual pleasure, you can also get married to obey the command to “be fruitful and multiply”. You can marry a guy if you think he is a decent Christian or to help him stay Christian, and be selfless in that you’re helping him though you’re not attracted to him.
You should also remember that God does not promise us any small reward for doing good deeds. His rewards Jesus taught, will last forever unlike the temporary things here which can be stolen, destroyed, or lost. Remember: when God returns to get rid of all the unforgiven, and if you’ve died, your body will be brought back to life and made perfect, and all the others he saved will be perfect. The universe will be renewed after having been melted and transformed into one that can withstand his, and his Son’s glory. You’ll have access to both Heaven and this universe, a never ending increasing amount of friends (since we’ll be able to continue having children). You can’t imagine the incredible paradise it will be, and how much better you will feel. You’ll have no sexual frustrations, that’s for sure. Read what God said:
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.” – Romans 8:18-19
In other words, those who love God, and who have God dwelling in them, including the angels, and perhaps animals in Heaven, are waiting for the inner beauty of humans whom he has saved to be revealed, and it will be revealed in a beautiful way that radiates visibly, like the light from a star or light passing through the heavens above us, but unimaginably more beautiful than both. God hints at how amazing we will look:
“After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. ” – Matthew 27
“I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.” – 2 Corinthians 12:2-4
They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the Yahweh—the grain, the new wine and the oil, the young of the flocks and herds. They will be like a well-watered garden, and they will sorrow no more. – Jeremiah 31:12
“he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Yahweh will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth.” – Isaiah 25:8
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain” – Revelation 21:3-5
